Application for Visitor Visa (Temporary Resident Visa - TRV)

New entry requirement now in effect:

Visa-exempt foreign nationals need an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) to fly to (or) transit through Canada. Exceptions include U.S. citizens and travellers with a valid Canadian visa. Canadian citizens, including dual citizens, and Canadian permanent residents cannot apply for an eTA.

The leniency period that allows travellers to board their flight without an eTA ends soon.

Be prepared: Apply for an eTA before you book your flight to Canada. Most applicants get approved within minutes. However, some applications can take several days to process so don't wait until the last minute.

To travel to Canada most visitors need:

  • a valid Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA),
  • a valid visitor visa, or
  • Proper identification such as a passport.
  • Completed and Signed Corresponding Forms for the appropriate type of travel. Please see tables provided below.
  • Signed VAC Consent Form: Two copies per applicant.
  • VAC Service Charge per applicant.
  • You must print out the relevant checklist, mark each document you are submitting, and include the checklist with your application.

Each applicant must fill out and sign their own form, including those travelling as a family. If you are under the age of 18, your parent or guardian must sign your form.

  • "Custodianship Declaration - Custodian for Minors studying in Canada" Form A photocopy of the child's birth certificate and a photocopy of the passport (or an identity document with signature) for each parent or for the legal guardian MUST be attached.
